Early encounters in Aotearoa
Hello, bloggers today we watched an episode of a history show and it was about when moari meet the euripeons and the first encounter was not a good one. the first explorer to o to NZ was Abel Tasman in 1642. That was the first time that moari meet other people and the moari did their normal welcoming thing but then the euipeons shot some cannons and then there was war. The next explore to go to NZ is captain cook and he brought pigs, ship mice and potatoes. Then they trade with Australia to get muskets and then the musket wars started. heaps of people died and in the end the ratio of moari and Polynesian was 40 to 1 and then the episode finished and that was pretty much all that happened

You've made a good summary of the key facts. You've listed some of the things that were brought in by the Europeans, but it would have been good to see diseases included as well. Check for correct spelling before posting next time (e.g. Europeans, Maori, explorer, Captain Cook).
ReplyDeleteA good overview of events Toby. Did they trade muskets with Australians? Check your spelling of Europeans and Maori.
