hello, my good sirs. today in wga we are learning about why some people get paid less than other people. The main reasons are the jobs like if you work at McDonald's you are not going to get as much as some good athlete. The jobs that are harder and rarer to do get paid more because of the stuff they have to do.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 7 and in 2021 I will be a year 8. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

The Holiday
The last two weeks were the school holidays and we could do what we wanted and I played PlayStation every day. I played a bit of Minecraft servers because I'm an epic pro gamer. I played with my friends most days. This is a list that I made to show you the different things.
I played with my friends a lot on Minecraft. We played egg wars and lost most of the time but we sweated and died. We played lucky blocks and lost. We lost a lot of our matches but still played because we had nothing else to do.
The only physical thing I really did was got food walked around the house and went to the toilet. I would get some food around ten and then go back to playing with the boys. We played a little bit of Fortnite creative and duos because why not.
During the holidays I started a Minecraft world with my brothers so we can play the same game so we all made a house. Then we dug a hole for the PvP fight and we called it the PVP pit. I destroyed my brothers in and out of the pvp pit.
The best part was getting up and waiting for my Dad to say we could play and then we did nothing else for the whole day. I was on the Ps5 or Ps4 depending on the day. Depending on the console I would play whatever the boys wanted to play.
When I would play Minecraft I would go to the nether to get the ender pearls and try to find the fortress. But I died a lot of time and then I was sad. But I would go back and go along with my day.
When my friends weren't on I would play servers by myself I played Lucky Blocks and I got a solo win by running because there are too many sweaty players. I got some decent loot and I think the last player fell off the map and then I got my first (and only) win.

Jane Addams
Today we were learning about Jane Addams who helped poor people by giving them somewhere to live and learn to cook and things like that. Heaps of people went there because they needed the basic things in life. Here are the questions we had to do.
She Didn't actually build the house
She is rich
She wanted to help people
When she saw poor people she wanted to help
Her dad died
She paid rent then got it for free
Why did you want to build a house
Why did you give away a pair of underwear
When did you decide to build a house
How many people did you take care of
What year did you start the house
Year 1 She was born
Year 6 Saw poor people and wanted to help
Traveled to London
Her dad died
Started the house in Chicago to help people
Built a playground

cometment
Today we are learning about commitment and how we are showing commitment throughout the year. I think that I am about half on the thumb scale. The different spaces we can show commitment are outside in the class and moving through the class. I think I could work focusing on the task. I think I find using my Chromebook the hardest because I can go on different sites.

Art
In art, we made a lino block print for our personal logo. I made mine based on the PS logo because I like PS. I enjoyed cutting the block to make the picture. I made it black and white because I felt like it and it was my first one of the batch. Here is the picture and some of my hands. In my opinion, the ink went onto it really well. Is there anything else I can do to make this look good.
Hands on fire!!
*Warning: do not try this at home*
Today we put our hands on fire and it was cool because it was safe but we were also on fire. Everyone's second turn was the bigger one because they knew what it was going to be like. The second one for mine I grabbed most of the bubbles and then Mr. Stock used the lighter then the flame jumped up and then would go out. I enjoyed it but it was weird to have your body on fire. We had to line up and have safety goggles on and we had to wet our hands and then get the bubbles and then the fire blew up.

2050
Hi, bloggers today I am gonna discuss what will 2050 be like. I think that it won't be that much different from now but gas will be more expensive than it is now. The cars might look different but are basically the same except because they might be electric and have to charge at home. Buildings might look different because of space and resources. There might be more apartments instead of houses. Food might look and be different from fast food. Our idea is to make a car that runs off screams so it saves gas but anyone else in the car would not have a good ride. The way it works is that there is a built-in iPad that plays a video and then goes flat then the kids scream to power the iPad and then that goes into the car to make the car have the power to go and then charges the iPad then it repeats that prosses.

Using a microscope
Today in science we used a microscope to look at an onion epidermis. First, we had to make a slide to put the onion on so we got the thin onion epidermis and then stained it with iodine. Then we had to look through the lens and then we had to move the scope to see it better. When we did that it looked like a brick wall. I was crazy that something that big had small things in it. Here is a picture of onions and the epidermal cell.

What is normal isn't normal
Hello bloggers today we read a text about how being weird is normal. After we read it we had to right a summary about the text so here it is.
The text explains that being weird is normal because everyone's normal is different so it is ok to be weird. It also says that in some countries things that you like can be weird but normal in a different country or a different time. It also says that a group of friends might be normal to like something but weird in a different group.

indacators
Last week we used acids, alkali, and water to find out if they had the things in them. Indicators can help us to do a lot of things like check if the waters good because if you put the universal indicator in water if it was normal and good water it would turn green. The cranberry juice had a slight color change with the water and the acid. The tea acid turned the tea orange water orange alkali turned it dark red and the turmeric acid yellow alkali red water yellow.

Skittles observations
Hello, Yesterday we did an experiment with skittles and water. When we put the water in a petri dish halfway and then put the skittles. The water carried the dye and then made the water change color. If you mixed the water it would go a gross brown color. If you flip the skittles over they turn white because they are the same but are different colors on the outside. The water smelt nice and sweet.
Science
- You need safety glases
- the yellow flame is safer because you can see it
- do not turn on the gas first because it can move and then it can be dangerouse
- stand back
- tie your hair back if you have long hair
- Get safety glases
- get equipment
- attace the tube to the gas tap
- get match/lighter
- turn on the gas and have match/lighter over the bunsen burner.

Heros from WW2
Hur 1: HEROES 28 (Maori) Battalion
Reference: Gardiner, W. (2019) Ake Ake Kia Kaha E! Forever Brave! B Company 28 (Maori) Battalion 1939-1945. Bateman Books.
Read the following two quotations with the teacher, discuss the meanings, and then answer the question.
..” Walter (Waata) Heretini, ‘was as blind as a bat. He couldn’t hit a barn if it was 50 metres away from him. Like a number of others who joined the battalion, Heretini persuaded a mate to do the medical for him so he could get away.” (pp. 60-61). |
“Lieutenant-Colonel Leckie ordered (Captain) Love to send a company to Musaid to strengthen the position… Love assigned the task to B Company, allocating Bren carriers to provide mobile reconnaissance. B Company was armed to the teeth, having ‘raided the enemy arms depot to some purpose. The return showed six spandaus, three anti-tank rifles, one 2-inch mortar, six Tommy guns, and fifty stick grenades from this source’.” (pp. 165-166). |
Question 1. Why were the soldiers of 28 (Maori) Battalion heroes?
Because they stole the weapons and did not know how they work. |
Read the following account of the actions of stretcher-bearers (medics) with the teacher, discuss the meanings. And then answer the question::
“Two B Company stretcher-bearers won immediate Military Medals for their bravery in this action. Corporal John Tupene ‘worked unceasingly throughout the night scouring the battlefield administering to and personally evacuating friend and foe alike… In one instance under heavy enemy fire, he dressed and splinted the limb of a soldier of another unit and carried him out to safety. Temporary Corporal James Pirihi worked cheerfully and untiringly treating, evacuating, and burying casualties until none remained on the field.’ A week later, Pirihi ‘again showed great devotion to duty administering to friends and foe alike. In one instance in the face of enemy MG fire, he dressed the wounds of a German soldier and finally carried him out to safety personally.” (p. 210). |
Question 2 Why were the stretcher-bearer's heroes?
Because they ran into battle with the guns firing helping friends and foe |
Read this account from a hard-working officer, and his concern for the soldiers with the teacher, discuss the meanings and answer the question:
“B Company, commanded by Major Bennett, started 15 minutes after the forward companies….. With his company has lost contact with the others, Bennett dug in and awaited developments. The prospect of a German counter-attack was uppermost in his mind. ‘I was fearful for the forward troops’ welfare… We were like a little finger poked out into the enemy positions and likely to be nipped off with ease. I was not apprehensive of enemy troops but I was of his tanks. Without anti-tank defenses, I knew I was absolutely at the mercy of tanks should they have attacked.’ Going back to Battalion Headquarters, he found that Baker had been wounded and the temporary commanding officer, Major Hart, mortally wounded. Bennet assumed command of the battalion, a position in which he would soon be confirmed.” (pp. 212-213). |
Question 3: Why were hard-working soldiers’ leaders heroes?
Because they risked their lives for others lives which is super brave |
